Conferment Requirements:

 
1. Professional Experience
 
Minimum Experience:   
 
Within the most recent five years the applicant must have three (3) years of verifiable full-time experience in financial services in one or more of the following areas: financial planning, mortgages, banking, insurance, investments, real estate, or accounting
 
A graduate degree obtained within the last five years can substitute for one year of business experience. 
 
2. Financial Services Certification

The applicant must hold at least one current certification from the list below. 

  • NASD, insurance, or real estate license with three years business experience 
  • Undergraduate or Master's Degree with a major in personal financial planning
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP®)
  • Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Registered Financial Consultant (RFC) 
  • Mortgage Broker's license or three documented years of experience as a mortgage originator or loan officer may be used to satisfy this requirement 

3. Educational Requirement

Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's Degree, in any major concentration. (5 years of relevant work experience can substitute for the Bachelor's Degree requirement.)
 
4.  Application
 
You must complete and submit an application, along with the $35 application fee, and you must be accepted into a MIFSP designation program.
 
5. Course Requirement
 
You must complete the required MIFSP coursework by attending the workshop or by taking the required self-study course.  And you must pass the examination with a minimum score of 75.
